Ok, my eyes are seriously about to bug out now. I went through our affiliates page and the affiliates pages of some of our affiliates and placed our ad on more sites than I'd care to remember. (If this doesn't draw some fresh blood, I'm gonna shoot myself).

Anyways, I'm done (at least for a while) now it's your turn.

I've been using the following ad to do the job:

The Edge of Destiny

With a dedicated team of staff and a lively, vibrant and well-versed community, you can be sure to find something that catches your eye.

Interested just yet? Read on then...

Easily accessible and open threads mean for endless possibilities for conversation.

The Edge of Destiny is host to several roleplaying forums. At the Edge, we value strong writing and innovative storytelling. Spanning several genres, the roleplay forums at the Edge of Destiny are sure to pique the interest of any player. There is the Pleiades Project, a masterful, quality-oriented mix of high fantasy and science fiction in one seamless realm; The Realm of Pleiades offers a niche for any roleplaying and practically any character design. To satisfy any roleplaying pallete, EoD features its own, purely original and homecooked realm titled "Emblem." The Emblem of the Edge features an immersive medieval styled fantastical world for those who enjoy a good, structured roleplay. Add that to the numerous freeform and storyteller led roleplays, and you have an environment to settle for any writer.

Some helpful tips:

Look for the site's advertising forum. Most are near the top or at the very bottom of the main page. If they don't have an Ad Forum, fuck 'em, they're no good to us.
Check to see if there are any odd rules we have to follow.
Make sure we don't already have an ad there.
If they ask you to register first, just leave. Don't waste your time.
When giving your name, put (EoD Staff) or (Eod Member) - whichever is pertinent - next to it so we can readily identify the ad as one of ours.
By the same token, label the title as "Edge of Destiny."
Come up with something flashy and catching for the description (if there's a slot for it). I've been using "Superior Debating, Superior RPing" as our campaign slogan.
The top three sites I found were Harry Potter, Star Wars, and X-men fan sites. Different sites may use different ways to describe their Ad Fora (for instance "Portkeys" and "Foo Network" are typical HP names;
"Plugs" is another common one).
Use the ad above exactly as is (images, links, and BB Code included) unless you feel you can come up with something better.
Always hit "Preview Post" before posting. Some sites don't let you edit your post and there may be some problems with the coding (like alignment or images) depending on board settings.
Again, don't forget to read the site's rules.
If you're up for it, skim through the site's other ads and post on them as well, following these same guidelines.
In this whole escapade, I've seen the faces of a lot of other sites, some of which have interesting ideas going for them, things that work, things that don't. I'll talk with the rest of the staff about possibly implementing some of these ideas here at home.

Oh, and lastly, I'll keep a running list of who's advertised where. If you advertise on a site, let me know and I'll add you to the list below.

Excellent, but for future reference, your should just list without their names. Something like "Link 1," "Link 2," etc., so as to reduce advertising of other forums. If I doubt your word, I can always click the link for myself. ;)

Keep up the good work.

Indeed.

Good work on this, you guys. I will display my efforts on this as well when I have time to spread the EODage around.

Just thought I'd display some places I advertised as well:

All of these boards (http://z14.invisionfree.com/Memoirs_of_a_Geisha/index.php?showforum=8)

All the ones here (http://z8.invisionfree.com/Point_of_No_Return/index.php?showforum=98&prune_day=100&sort_by=Z-A&sort_key=last_post&st=0)

And here up to page 7 (http://z9.invisionfree.com/thesweetestnightmare/index.php?showforum=2&prune_day=100&sort_by=Z-A&sort_key=last_post&st=0) (still going)

And of course all the ones in our own Ad Forum, as well as an ads on GUA and SRPC.

A bunch of these boards were already advertised on other boards (as to be expected) but I think I've got at least 100 ads out so far (and counting). ^_^

I'll finish that one board (with the blue skin and 14 pages of ads) and then hit a few other places but feel free to pick up where I left off.

Additionally, if there's no rule against it, plug our ads. :D

Seems the board went offline or has since been locked out to guests. Ah well. There were only about ten listed there anyway.

I have a banner at the bottom of my forum for EoD. I shall advertise with others as well.

Honestly what's the use? Do you join a forum just because a new member has joined advertising it?

I sure as wouldn't, posting at forums you are a member of is a good idea, otherwise it's probably just a waste of time.

Every little bit helps. It's why we have those Toplist sites at the bottom of the board (that people seem to be failing to click regularly :(). I know in the days following my starting of this thread, there was a clear increase in members, so it certainly works, especially with the number of ads I churned out.

But yes, advertising on boards you're already a part of and word of mouth advertising are certainly welcome too. Again, every little bit helps.

I'd like to help bring members too !

I was wondering for the homepage of EoD we could replace the featuring posts from the announcements since they are kinda saying 'EoD is doomed!' Instead, maybe we can have information on the front with what EoD features: A description of TPP and WotOR and maybe a list of current debates going on.

That way to advertise we simply need to:
1. Have a teaser sentance or two and a link to EoD's homepage
2. Homepage does the rest of the talking.
3. Potential member find something that interests them and they are already on the site.. so it might encourage them to join up.

It might help, dunnoz.

That makes sense to me, smart idea Talamasca
