I wanted to make a .hack//-esque game without it being set in the world of .hack//. So, here's something I cooked up about three months ago and just recently found within the dark corridors known as my hard drive.

endgame.exe

A new videogame for the computer was released several months ago by a relatively new company calling themselves New Land. The game is known as End Game. This game has become very popular over the last few months, enough that almost 5 out of every 6 people around the world between the ages of 12 and 25 have bought and use a copy.
It is a virtual reality MMORPG, one that takes place in a futuristic world where inter-galactic travel is possible and laser technology has developed into handheld weapons. It is also considered one of the most sophisticated videogames out there, in terms of graphics quality and gameplay; many users swear that they lose their sense of reality sometimes. Within the game, people can interact with other characters, as well as journey into wilderness areas to fight against creatures of all shapes and sizes.
Despite all the great points of this game, certain areas of the game are closed off for long periods of time, and sometimes people's accounts mysteriously disappear. One can't help but wonder if anything may be going on behind the scenes, and what it is.

Recently, various people have received e-mails from a mysterious address, sent through a website that was shut down years ago. All of them pertain to the game, and they warn the users of impending danger within it that may threaten their lives. Many have chosen to ignore this, but a few have decided to prepare for what may or may not happen. These few are in constant contact with the sender, preferring to be known as Shadow001. You are of these few, and you never know when the prophecied danger will come. You are to first meet each other and discuss the situation with Shadow001 himself.

Wow, this seems pretty cool, and well thought out to boot. I'm in, now let's just try and get a few more.

Once I've seen at least two others show interest I'll post character creation guidelines.

Sure thing, if you're any good with PhotoShop, you could make a banner for people to put in their sigs to drum up interest.

Ah, I remember seeing the concept for this on Infamous.

Sounds interesting, actually. Could we have a writing sample?

Writing sample? Umm... I'll work on that (as soon as I'm done with my History project). For now, I'l post character creation guidelines so you can work on those.

Please PM all characters. After they are approved, I will post them for you.

Out of Game Info
You can use anything for this area. Heck, you can even use stuff about yourself, for all I care. This won't matter much except for those who wish to RP outside of the game, as in communicating with each other in the real world or through means other than the game.

In-Game Info
Username
Use anything for this. This could be a random array of numbers and letters, a name, or just your username on these forums. The person I will be controlling uses a sorta basic name, Shadow001.

Class
You have four classes to choose from. This will determine what sort of style you want your character to fight with. There are the Soldier, Hunter, Scoundrel, and Adept. Each of these will be described in depth later. There is a fifth class that very little is known of, and only a select few hold the abilities of these.

Appearance
This can be anything from the simple t-shirt and shorts to the "futuristic" neon jumpsuit to Victorian-era clothing (this is an MMO). Also include what your character looks like other than their clothes (face, height, build).

Personality
Bossy, whimpy, cowardly, brave; any words you can use to describe how your character acts in game. This is really just basic, and their personality will probably develop differently over time, so don't feel that you have to stick to what you type.

Weapons (include descriptions)
This can be anything from swords to bows to laser weapons to anything else you can think of. Although, try to be reasonable. No one would be using a stone club at this technology level, and no government would allow you to travel around with a portable nuke launcher. If you are not sure if your weapon would be appropriate, PM me with a short description of it and I will tell you my opinion.

Soldier
Focuses on using large weapons for brute strength. Most soldiers will be seen with large laser rifles or gigantic swords. If you plan on fighting a soldier it is suggested you be able to move quickly, for many experienced soldiers can take down enemies with only a few blows.

Hunter
Hunters can be seen using a variety of mid-sized weapons, such as laser pistols and one-handed swords. These people specialize in using two weapons at once and are notorious for their speed. Some hunters even use simple longbows.

Scoundrel
The scoundrel is skilled in using very small weapons to make crippling blows. They can sneak around through the shadows without being noticed, then strike their opponent in a vital area and take them down with that one blow.

Adept
Adepts can use the ancient skills of the occult. Using these abilities, many adepts feel little need to use weapons, though some use staff-like weapons to defend themselves from anyone who gets through their defenses.

??? (You cannot choose to be this class)
Little is known of the elite class except that they can use abilities from all of the other four. These few people (only three are known to have this class) use very unorthodox weapons. Shadow001 is one of these people.

Well, since EoD is slowing down quite a bit and I just recently found it among my bookmarks again, I'm thinking about trying to start this RP again. My school year's almost over anyways, so I'll have a lot more time here.

I'm going to eventually post more information and a writing sample, as Janus had asked for a long time ago, but first I want to see who's still interested.
