The world.
Humanity looks upon it with love, as a child would look at its mother. In it, human kind has flourished, expanding to the Earth's brim, filling all of it's nooks and crannies with its massive populace. However, even as the people of earth multiplied and became more and more knowledgeable, living their lives, growing, and expanding, a force was stirring elsewhere in existence that would tear down their safe solitude of a home...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
The day was December 21st, 2815. From out of nowhere, a black comet, hidden in the shadow of the sun, flew on a collision course with the planet. The people of Earth had no time to react, as the velocity of the black comet was neigh unto that of light. Within minutes, the comet struck earth... the result was not a spectacular and terrifying explosion, as the people thought it would be, but an eruption of a black myst, one that spewed forth and swallowed earth in darkness...
Whatever the myst touched, it corrupted. Plants withered, rotted, became worse than the dirt. They became twisted, mottled weeds, draining the planet of its life. The fauna that inhaled the myst became nothing but horrifying monsters, twisted images of their former selves. Take a butterfly, for example. The myst leaks in through the pores in its exoskeleton, and it instantly dies. In its place forms a monstrous black insect, about one foot long, with a wingspan of two feet, complete with razor sharp claws, hideous pruple eyes, and a thirst for blood. The colorful patterns on its wings became mottled patches of dark colours, a sickening sight. Needless to say, the grass was no longer greener on the other side.
Perhaps the most frightening part about the Calamity was the people... The people that were consumed became hideous, eight foot tall monstrosities, with long, spindly fingers, ending in claws sharp enough to easily pierce the skin. Their faces froze in their tortured states of pain, twisting to form even more repulsive facial features. Their skins were tanned a blackish brown, and their voices became whispered screams, chilling the listener to the bone. From what the survivors have said, their bodies weren't the only things corrupted, their minds were as well: The twisted humans hated everything. But the worst part of all had to be that they were partially sentient. Because the myst did not affect inorganic material, the being were able to build their own mock society, even electing a leader, named Kaas. They could drive our cars, work our jobs, even use our guns... Obviously, mankind was looking pretty bleak. Even if they somehow kept their air clean, the corrupt would infiltrate and spread their contamination like a disease, biting, clawing, or otherwise coming into contact with the beings that hadn't yet been infected. So, for awhile, humanity had to retreat, taking the animals that they had domesticated and retreating underground, underwater, into their own cities.
Before I go on, let me give some background into the research done before the Calamity. By the year 2500, scientists had researched ecology to the point that they could build a city underground, and, by supporting it with new advances in Nanotechnology, sustain it and a million people besides. Nanites would convert waste particles into their base forms, barely atoms, and reconstruct them, as programmed, as new resources. Tadaa, instant solution to pollution.
Scientists have not been so naive as to indulge themselves solely in peaceful research, though. Leaps in Miniaturization have led to a compact Laser, the smallest of which are barely the size of a finger, capable of shearing through diamonds. New methods of propulsion, including using nanites to fuse unstable particles at remarkable temparatures (sometimes even room temparature) have led to propulsion systems capable of lifting entire tankers into the sky, hence hovercraft technology. Even more so, the use of nanites has led to various discoveries of molecules formed by highly unstable atoms. The molecules themselves were super-stable, and could not even be broken down by the nanites themselves once formed. This metal, named Adamantite, the refined version being Adamantium, was a combination of unnamed elements 312 and 571, which led to element 400, along with several waste atoms of Uranium, Iron, and Strontium. Unstable elements were kept in gravitational stasis, a method of preserving unstable particles by keeping them trapped in a super-gravitaional field, created by the use of another particle that had been, untill recently, mainly theoretical: the graviton. Back to the metal Adamantium... this metal defied all logical explanations. All of the logistics said that this metal should have been 10x heavier than steel, when in actuality, it was as light as most synthetic plastics. Also true was the fact that it would remain almost completely unfazed in the event of a nuclear detonation in the near vicinity of the element. Needless to say, scientists immediately developed a way to mold this new element, by constructing furnaces capable of mimicking the heat found at the core of the sun, to shape this element for military use. Fortunately, this element has not fallen into the hands of the Corrupt, giving us one advantage.
Back to the main picture. After the first few months after the Calamity, people were herded into massive Biomes, reaching at times for thousands of miles across. Some were above ground, in which case huge bubbles of glass that had been reinforced countless times completely surrounded the biome, on all sides, and for some ways below it, protecting it completely from the myst. Other biomes were built underground, and still others below the sea, where the myst could not reach. Energy was delivered to these biomes through massive amounts of Sattelites: Colossal constructs that orbited the planet, beaming energy down constantly in various forms of electromagnetism. One went down, five went up, so the saying went. The Corrupt could not touch them, and so Humanity had saved itself... untill its curiosity got in the way.
About five years after the Calamity, a geneticist set out the tentative question: What was in the myst that caused these mutations in the organisms? So, a special Biome was set up in the ruins of the city of Kharkov, for the special purpose of isolating a sample of air that contained the myst. They analyzed it, and found that a molecule of an unidentifiable compound worked its way into the cell of an organism, and completely mutilated its DNA. Their source was reported as "watching the mutation in progress," which meant that they injected the s**t into something and watched it squirm as it died and mutated. Apparently, the DNA was rearranged, giving the organism several new chromosomes, making the newly-tinted black cells super strong, super durable, and super reproductive - they multiplied at a rate that was five times that of Cancer cells, untill the organism was completely taken over by the host organism. The new organism didn't destroy the brain cells, the cells were simply reconfigured to give the animal a new, sick and evil alter-ego, so to speak. And then came the scientists' blunder... they wanted to see if they could develop a drug to halt this mutagen. They came out with a test drug, codenamed "Salvation." As far as the animal tests went, Salvation seemed to prevent any mutations at all.
So then, they came up with the bright idea for human testing, of which the remaining governments completely approved. I was the first, along with some others. I got the Salvation shot, then a few weeks later I got a dose of the myst. I was kept in quarantine, separate from the other human tests, for a period of four weeks. During that time, I showed no symptoms, so I was technically a success. That's when everything went horribly wrong...
All around the world, the mutated cells changed. They empowered the Corrupt further, giving them even more power, enough to give Kaas enough balls to declare war on the countries that survived the Calamity. Our soldiers were armed with Adamantium suits, complete with respirators for filering the myst out of the air, but when the new Corrupt couldn't gun our men down, they would gang up on one soldier and rip his or her suit in two, feasting on the soldier within. And if they left the brain intact, the victim changed into one of them.
The mutant cells weren't the only things that morphed... the mutagen itself did too, giving it partial resistance to Salvation. The new mutagen, which was still floating around my system, disfigured my right arm, where it was injected, colouring it black, and gave my eyes their present black tint. However, it did not blacken my mind, which proved that the drug still did have some effect... but that didn't matter. When I had gone under, my entire body felt like it was going to kill itelf, like being sick, but ten times as worse. I wanted to die, but the pain that accompanied it kept reminding me that I was very much alive. I was... changed... I could breathe the myst without suffering any further change. I was stronger, faster, meaner, just like the Corrupt, and I was pissed. This mutagen not only changed me, but forced me out of society: I carried the germ, and so I had to be removed. Before they finally caught me, I managed to break into an Adamantium forge and craft a few implements for myself. Guns wouldn't work, because the twisted humans, fondly called "Cancers" by the public, could dodge bullets. I settled for creating a sword, one that would seem unwieldly due to its size were it not made out of Adamanitum. I keep it with me at all times, along with the Laser Rifle I managed to steal from the Barracks of Neo Albany before I fled. Left their gate wide open to the myst, too, and I hope they've learned what happens when you cross a Freak.
The date is now 2832, August 12th. I've heard that the Corrupt have been winning more and more of the land battles, whereas planes keep buzzing overhead and dropping bombs on their cities. This war seems like its a stalemate, but not for long. I've got to decide which side I want to kill, and fast, or there's not gonna be much life left to annhilate...

As the RPer, you will be playing as either a Freak, or as a human.
The Freaks are the few people who have been infused with Salvation and the mutagen. They are as fast and strong as the Corrupt, with minimal to no disfiguration, except for the eyes and hair, which changed in 100% of the cases.

AI has developed to the point of being able to copy simple human behavior. Although it has not developed to the point of creating the "man in the machine," it can follow audible orders, and has basic automatic functions, such as defending it's owner, and the like. Robots can be created out of Adamantium, or they can be of another metal, and they can be either hoverbots or land-bound machines. The choice is yours.
The RP takes place during the war between humans and the Corrupt. The surviving nations are: Germany, Great Britain, Russia, America, and Japan. Other Biomes exist in places where countries used to exist as well; in this case, that biome carries the name of the country. The above countries have several Biomes in them.
Other establishments have also been made in the ocean, and if your starting location is there, then you must specify off of what coast the Biome is.
Rules:
NO GODMODDING. The first time I catch you, it's a warning, the next, its a ban from my RP. 4evr. .
No powerplaying. You cannot say, "I shot him in the head and watched as his brains splattered." You can say, "I took aim and fired at his head." Powerplaying applies only when two Rpers are interacting, not between an RPer and an NPC. Unless the other RPer consents to it, it is considered a Powerplay.
No flaming, but this RP is indeed one for mature audiences. These are some tough times, so I don't expect anyone to have their characters whistling in the dark. Although this isn't a rule, please try to act like your character is in a doomsday scenario and not sitting at home typing about a doomsday scenario.
My character:
Name: Justin
Race: Freak
Age: 16
Personality: Open minded, except on the subject of human nature. He is a cynicist through and through, and distrusts others almost as much as the Corrupt. Very emotional, partly because the mutagen tampered with his hormones when he changed. He has a short temper, and when angered, explodes completely. For this reason, he secludes himself even from the ones who attempt to live outside of the Biomes, preferring not to trouble others with his rage.
Physical Description: Justin stands at 5'9", and weighs 160 lbs. He has a muscular build, but his muscles put out fifteen times that of normal humans, just as much as a Corrupt's. His right arm is discolored black, and has a rough texture to it, all the way up to his shoulder, and part of his back, side, chest, and neck. The disfiguration has not spread since, and has shown no signs of such a thing ever happening. His hair was black before the change, and so has undergone no major change in color, but his eyes have become completely black, with red Irises. Dure to his speed, he can cover several hundred miles per day, averaging about 30 mph. Max speed is 55 mph on foot, although he can only keep that speed up for about two minutes.
Gear: Change of clothes, three spare batteries for Laser Rifle. Radio for listening to news, spare batteries. Rations for 2 weeks.
Weapons: Laser Rifle (range = 500 yards, scope included); Adamantium sword, two-hands for Human, one-hand for Freak/Corrupt. 6' long, 1' wide, extremely sharp, unbreakable except under extreme heat.
History: Justin led a normal life, as far as living in the Biome of Albany could go, untill he was selected as a test subject. He was an ideal subject because his family had a history of no inherent diseases, and he accepted without the consent of his parents, under the belief that it would benefit mankind, whether the test failed or succeeded. It failed, and he became a Freak. Soon after the fiasco, a notice traveled through the majority of the Biomes to be on the watch for disfigured people, hence the Freaks became outlaws. However, they weren't completely corrupt, and so were not accepted into the society of the Corrupt either. The only true place that they fit in was with the people that lived outside of the Biomes, who used gask masks and respirators to breathe when outside.
Present Location: On the East coast of America, near present-day New York City.
