I might purchase this game today so I'll let you know what it's like.

Okay, this game is absolutely amazing. Wonderful. This is the game of the year, my friends. It really outdoes itself.
One of it's larger attributes is the games customization. The RP customization is just so vast that I'm left not knowing what the hell to choose. I have turned my XBOX 360 on and I will categorize and count each roleplaying attribute and list their choices.

There are tons of apparel to wear, melee weapons to bash creatures faces in and guns to tote.
Taking a sledgehammer to someones face using the V.A.T.S. mode who recently upset you is the most satisfying feeling EVER.
In the beginning, you are handed an expansive character creation system (Which you can choose Male or Female) and whatever choices you make, your father resembles you. It is the year 2277 and a Nuclear War between North America and China in the year 2077 (Two hundred years earlier) obliterated pretty much everything . . . Except some humans survived.
Some humans divided and lived under utopian-like underground vaults, never seeing the sunlight. Other live in the radiation-infested surface living in cities made by metal scraps and burnt vehicles.
When you turn nineteen, your father mysteriously leaves the vault and you venture out into the cruel and destroyed aftermath called the World.
The combat system and PIP-Boy menu style are very much like The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion (Well, they are both developed by Bethesda Softworks) which isn't something that is necessarily bad. At all.
The combat system introduces something titled V.A.T.S.
You basically pause the game and get a diagnostic of your enemies status. You get to aim at a body part and it shows a percentage. This represents your ability to either hit the target (High %) or to miss (Low %).
After you do hit or miss, it shows your character in a slow motion (And cool camera angle) delivering the blow. This looks particularly fucking sweet with melee weapons.
Source and Information: V.A.T.S. - The Vault - a Fallout wiki (http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/V.A.T.S).
Like Oblivion, you can choose between first person and third person angles to play the game in. You make good or bad choices and the outcome of your choices shows brightly.
In the first town you reach, Megaton, you get to make a vital choice with Mr. Simms and Mr. Burke. You'll know what I mean when you play. ;)
The graphics are wonderful, the atmosphere is great, the storyline is amazing and fits in with the concept, the gameplay is sound and well-executed and this game is great.
I've only played four hours of the damn thing and it sucked me in immediately.
I would recommend this game to ANYONE. Fan of the series or no. I didn't like the other two Fallout games.
The third? Love it.

Psh. I bet Halo 3's single player was better.

The character creation has four races to choose from so that your Liam Nesson-voiced father can have a preset appearance, and the slides and selections are a little blah, but that's it.
I didn't even play this game in HD and I was pretty much blown away. Breaking mole rats' faces with a sledgehammer = win. Breaking centaurs legs with a gun = win^2. Fending off multiple feral dogs and later a shotgun-armed scavenger with his own dog with Dogmeat at your side = Omg.
I kept thinking of I Am Legend when playing this; I might consider getting it.
Lord Sorgo
11-02-2008, 08:38 PM
Slides and selections? You do know that you can choose to just completely customize your character? Without using presets? It uses the same character customization engine as Oblivion.
I have the game in HD so believe me when I say I'm UBER blown away by this spectacular video game. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

It's sick. The character animations are a little sucky sometimes, but the effects and environment are staggeringly good.
Actually, another problem; the level cap. You'd have to play through several times just to see what maxed out stats can do, which is seriously obnoxious. AND you can't play after you beat it; you need to load the last save point.
This is why I'm probably going with CoD5 or GoW2 or PoP.

Oh, of course. F3 definitely isn't perfect but I love the game. It's a blast. An atomic one, at that.

The PC version is very buggy and crashes frequently. That's my main complaint.
As far as gameplay goes, amazing.
Maxed perception, agility, luck, sneak, and small guns + sniper rifle, gunslinger, better critical, blood and guts, sniper perk, and zimmer quest perk = a lot of fucking headshots.
I can even take out Deathclaws in 1 well-placed shot to the head. I sniped a Behemoth before he could reach me. With the extra AP perk, I got 3 headshots with a sniper in one VATs.
Amazing stuff.

Vene's cousin found the White House in-game. it's a giant smoking crater.

I can even take out Deathclaws in 1 well-placed shot to the head. You can cripple it with a dart gun.
I played it on 360 for five minutes; I saw an Enclave member and sniped him, only to have the two giant scorpions he was fighting come after me. A deathclaw then runs out of nowhere and kills one while I kill the other, charges at me, and gets a dart gun to the leg. Slaughter ensues.
Illustrious
12-02-2008, 06:02 PM
It's too bad that it's impossible to get a deathclaw vs. behemoth encounter. That would be fun to watch.
Lord Sorgo
12-02-2008, 07:35 PM
I hate Deathclaws mainly because I encountered one quite early into the game and got uber raped. When I say early, I mean I still had the vault jumpsuit on.
Illustrious
12-02-2008, 10:13 PM
Yeah, if you get really unlucky, you can encounter them by the Super Duper Mart.
And they do rape, especially if you don't have the equipment for them.
Then again, you can use their large size to their disadvantage, and back down an alley or something.
Lord Sorgo

This one nabbed me in an open space. I wasn't very impressed. I hear the Old Olney is literally filled with them.
Illustrious
12-03-2008, 01:15 AM
Yeah, I cleared out Old Olney though with some nice sneaking around and headshots with the sniper rifle. Two headshots (with one of them being a sneak critical) will down them.
I went into the underground sewers and got a medic prototype power armor. It's pretty nice.
Lord Sorgo
12-03-2008, 02:53 AM
Good find. I'm nervous of going into the Old Olney yet at the same time I want to clear it out just for the sake of having a few less Deathclaws roaming around the Capital Wastelands.
Illustrious
12-03-2008, 07:27 AM
Yeah, I was actually very nervous about entering Old Olney, because I knew there were Deathclaws there and at the time, I've never faced one.
But if you sneak around well enough and snipe, you can take them out before they ever get to you. I equipped my mercenary with a sniper rifle and we just took out Deathclaws together at the Deathclaw Base.
And is it just me, or are Enclave pansies? I'd seriously rather face three or four of them before I face 1 Deathclaw.
Lord Sorgo
12-03-2008, 09:08 AM
To be honest, I have not yet faced that. I have not progressed that far into the story line as of so far. The farthest I've gotten (Main storyline) is past that retarded-sized Behemoth and into the Galaxy New Radio station to speak with Three Dog.
Unfortunately, my 360 copy got a large nasty scratch on it when my cousin put a small LCD on it thinking it would be fine. I wasn't home and when I got home, I was pretty upset. It's alright because I purchased a three dollar guarantee on it at EBGAMES stating that if anything happens to it, I get to replace it within one year.
Here's what I've done so far:
I have escaped Vault 101. I went around Megaton and did some quests there (Leaky pipes, removing Mr. Burke and the questing at Arefu with that odd vampire wannabe society.) Also, I've done the quest to assist the ghouls in living among Tenpenny Tower. I also disposed of Mr. Burke to get revenge for the town sheriff. I hacked Moriarty's computer to get the information regarding Vault 101 Dweller's father. I then headed to see Three Dog who now wants me to go set up a fucking satellite for him. Also, the Behemoth raped Dogmeat. I was fucking choked.
This game is fucking awesome. I literally had to stop playing it for a week because it was interfering with my sleeping schedule big time. This is an amazing game and it puts Oblivion under it's foot in terms of gameplay variety, graphics and storyline. I must admit that I liked Oblivions questing diversity though.
I did not like the first two but I seem to be really enjoying this installment. It just has this twisted, depressed and dark feeling to it's gameplay. I haven't seen something so sinister since RE2 and SH4:TR.
Illustrious

You did your quest in a very funny order, at least, in terms of my character, who did it very different.
I did...
-Escaped the Vault
-Talked to Silver
-Poked around the Elementary school a bit
-Headed to Megaton
-Charmed Moriarty and Nova
-Started Moira's quest by going to the Super Duper Mart and killed the raiders
-Headed across the River to start on the Three Dog quest
-Poked around Dupont
-Poked around the Dupont Stations some more
-Poked around Dupont Stations even more since I couldn't find the fucking way to get to the Mall (where I needed to go for Three Dog's quest)
-Returned to Megaton
-Did more small stuff for Moira
-Explored a bit, and found Bethesda Ruins
-Went hunting for Rivet City (since I couldn't find the Mall)
-Poked around the metro stations in DC even more, as I couldn't find Rivet City
-Cleared Our Lady hospital
-Cleared Statesman Hotel
-Accidentally killed everyone on the roof of the Statesman Hotel, and ended up failing Reily's Rangers Quest before I even got the quest
-Finally found Rivet City
-Poked around the Jefferson Memorial because I couldn't figure out how to get into the damn city
-Finally got into Rivet City
-Started doing sidequests
-Did Arefu
-Killed the guy at Minefield
-Did the Greyditch/Fire Ant quest
-Did the Big Town quest
-Explored
-Found Old Olney and cleared out the city of its Deathclaw problem
-Finally advanced the main quest
Now, after I did the main quest at the Jefferson Memorial, I couldn't even tell you what I did, because I ended up fast traveling a lot and running around with my Brotherhood merc (who's awesome with fully repaired Tesla Armor and Helmet and a badass sniper rifle and the unique Wazer Wifle). I cleared out 3 out of 5 Behemoth's so far, did that goofy Tranquility Lane, cleared Evergreen Mills and Paradise Falls of all of its occupants (stinking Raiders and slavers), poked around Little Lamplight, rigged a vote at the Republic of Dave, and lots of cool stuff.
But I definitely love this game. It's incredibly addicting, and I'm glad it crashes as much as it does or else I'd keep playing it.

It's a damn shame it's not that stable. I'd like to try it some day, but I'd need to update my computer. And get plenty of free time.
Illustrious
12-03-2008, 08:11 PM
It's not that bad, especially if you run it on XP.
The gameplay alone makes it a worthy investment. If you liked Oblivion, you'll love, love Fallout 3.
Plus, you can imagine Feral Ghouls as zombies.
Lord Sorgo
12-03-2008, 08:11 PM
Oh, I did much more than that. I forgot a lot of it because I find there was a lot to do. For example, the first quest I usually do when I step foot out of the Vault is Moira's. I've only gotten past chapter one. Have you finished the book, Illie?
I'll leave what I've done in your list (In no particular order)
-Escaped the Vault
-Poked around the Elementary school a bit
-Headed to Megaton
-Charmed Moriarty and Nova
-Started Moira's quest by going to the Super Duper Mart and killed the raiders
-Headed across the River to start on the Three Dog quest

-Explored
-Finally advanced the main quest
I tore that sniper apart with a combat shotty. It was fun.
I also have a question for you. Do you have any advice on how to earn lots of caps? I can't seem to get it right.
Illustrious
12-03-2008, 08:25 PM
There's no easy way to earn caps. I have found that if you find multiple versions of the same weapon/armor, you should use one to repair the other and sell them. This allows you to carry more (you get rid of one instance for the other), and they are worth more than 2 crappy versions of the same thing.
You could also pickpocket the caps off merchants and stuff, since they seem to randomly generate more caps.
There are also cap rewards for certain quests that are pretty hefty.
Lord Sorgo
12-03-2008, 10:22 PM
Really? I didn't know that. The thing that dings me the most right now is repair. It's irritating.
Ammo is easy because I can find ammunition I don't use and just sell it for ammo I do use. Also, I don't buy armor because I find good armor most of the time.
If I had the PC Version, I'd just have the "Gods" send me some caps. Hahaha.
For armor, that is what I usually do. I keep one or two for repair and sell the rest. I do the same with my weaponry.
Illustrious
12-04-2008, 01:13 AM
Repair is actually a pretty good skill to invest in. I picked Sneak, Small Guns, and Repair as my 3 key skills. It's very useful when I want to fix up armor and guns and don't want to run to a merchant to pay.
I have the PC version.
My console doesn't come up.
Lord Sorgo
12-04-2008, 01:58 AM
I have Small Guns, Persuasion and Melee combat. I couldn't deny old school guns for laser weaponry. I'm far too old fashioned.
I know you have the PC Version. I just wish I had a decent PC to run it.
Why don't you post a screenshot of your dweller?
Illustrious
12-04-2008, 03:23 AM
You can't take a screenshot without the console working.
Lord Sorgo
12-04-2008, 03:58 AM
Um, what in the blue devil are you speaking of?
Illustrious
12-04-2008, 07:35 AM
Well, the print screen doesn't work too well, and I can't access my console, so I have no idea how to take a screenshot of my character.
Lord Sorgo
12-04-2008, 09:06 AM
Hmm. That's quite odd. Usually, with PC games, the Print Screen key initiates a function that automatically catalogues screencaps into a conveniently placed folder where your gaming files are located.
Regardless, my character is in the middle of that dastardly fire ant quest. It's damn hard and the fire ants are seemingly difficult to defeat. I often try to get them from a distance but I'm not that stealthy when it comes to gameplay. I usually use manipulation moreso than subtlety (EG: Walking a fire ant into a group of them, shooting it's antennae and watching it frenzy as I stand back and lob a grenade into the middle of the group.)
The problem is that as I progress, they're so god damned spread out that I have to take them individually and I'm no powerhouse. (I'm a level 4. I just made this dweller.)
I found a fairly vantage point so I've just been picking them off as of so far.
Illustrious
12-04-2008, 10:50 AM
I did the quest at around level 10, you should definitely wait because those ants can eat low level guys for lunch.
Keep your weapons repaired constantly. I hunt super muties so I can get more hunting rifles to repair. A well repaired weapon goes a long way to killing those ants. Also, if you're [hidden] while you hit them, it's a guaranteed sneak critical, which can kill an ant in one shot.
Though it is nice to lob a grenade.
I did that for Evergreen Mills. There were so many flipping raiders that I took my sniper rifle and snuck around all the way back and to the roofs, lobbed a grenade and took out the generate that fenced off the behemoth, and watched as the behemoth proceeded to own all the Raiders. Then, from the safety of the roofs, I picked him off with a few bullets to the brain. That was a lot of fun.
Lord Sorgo
12-04-2008, 08:00 PM
True enough. Those fucking ants are pwning my face. That one group I manipulating into a circle and then grenaded got fizzowned but I can't handle the rest. I managed to take out each and every last ant underground in that subway station for that retarded scientist.
I've heard about Evergreen Mills and that Behemoth hiding in the fence. A friend of mine unleashed it, hoping it would get the raiders and it went STRAIGHT for him. I LOL'ed hugely.
Illustrious
12-04-2008, 09:59 PM
That's why you have to be smart about it. I was hidden on top of a roof when I chucked a grenade that took out the generator and unleashed the behemoth. When the behemoth took out all the raiders, I sniped him in the dome.
Lord Sorgo
12-04-2008, 10:30 PM
My friend clearly was not all too smart about it. Speakng of FOIII, I'm going to Germantown right now to go rescue those folks extracted from Big Town. I wonder if there will be a lot of Super Mutants. Regardless, I have a nice little toy on me: Combat Shotgun.
Illustrious

The Lincoln Repeater is my favorite weapon in the game.
Lord Sorgo
12-05-2008, 01:18 AM
What kind of weapon is that? I will look it up on the Fallout Wiki.
The ripper is kind of cool and I have Burke's silenced 10MM which does dick-all in terms of damage. I use the damned thing to pick off radroaches and those giant bees.
I've heard there is a sweet perk where you can befriend all animals, including the deadly Yao Guai.
Illustrious
12-05-2008, 01:22 AM
Yao Guai's are nothing. I'm not worried about them. A few good shots to the head and they're gone. Hell, Charon kills most of them (I haven't gotten far enough into the game to get Fawkes).
The perk doesn't do anything to Deathclaws, who are what I REALLY worry about.
Lord Sorgo
12-05-2008, 01:42 AM
I haven't even encountered any of them yet and someone mentioned they were supposedly deadly. I've heard of both Charon and Fawkes but have yet to get either. I may go to the underworld and nab Charon.
I'm going to pick up Licoln's Repeater right now. (It should be a breeze with my Ghoul Mask). Should I go through Anacostia?
Illustrious
12-05-2008, 01:45 AM
Yao Guai's are considerably stronger than Super Mutants, and can take a handful of headshots from the hunting rifle to down one. That still doesn't make them that deadly though, and they are pretty good experience.
Lord Sorgo
12-05-2008, 02:00 AM
The Hunting Rifle is one of my favorite in-game weapons, alongside the Combat Shotty.
I, however, need to get my bloody hands on that Repeater. Seriously.
I need to find Brotherhood of Steel armor too. I just popped on the Strong Back perk so I've been loading up like a madman.
Illustrious
12-05-2008, 04:12 AM
I didn't get that perk, I did pop a good number of points into Intense Training though.
I have 6 strength, 10 perception, 5 endurance, 7 charisma, 8 intelligence, 10 agility, and 10 luck. I sneak around and critical headshot like a felon. Hell, I don't even need VATs most of the time.
I also got the improved VATs, better critical, gory death, gunslinger, light step, and increased XP perks, plus the wired reflex and ant sight quest perks.
And I wouldn't worry about getting the Brotherhood armor. After a quest event, you can start killing randomly spawned Enclave guys, and they drop either Enclave Power Armor or Tesla Armor, which is even better.
Lord Sorgo

I didn't get that perk, I did pop a good number of points into Intense Training though.
I did the exact same in the beginning. I sort of branched off into other perks as the levels moved along.

I'm level nine. Here are my stats.
- 7 STR
- 5 PER
- 6 END
- 5 CHA
- 8 INT
- 7 AGI
- 6 LUC
I have Lincoln's Repeater (Just got it twenty minutes ago. It was fucking easy too. Feral ghouls? I was hoping for Mutants and YG. Lol.) I dropped that glowing one with a single shotgun shell. To the leg. How pathetic. I have the game on hard too. WTF?
I also got the improved VATs, better critical, gory death, gunslinger, light step, and increased XP perks, plus the wired reflex and ant sight quest perks.
Great choices, Illie. I want to get the Improved VATS and better criticals as well. Bloody Mess is something I don't want to get. I just don't like the fact that everything explodes after it dies. It's like a bad seventies horror film.
Gunslinger? You specialize with rifles, right? You should stick with you LR and get the Commando perk. The Gunslinger is usually used for pistoleering.
And I wouldn't worry about getting the Brotherhood armor. After a quest event, you can start killing randomly spawned Enclave guys, and they drop either Enclave Power Armor or Tesla Armor, which is even better.
Interesting. I'm in the D.C. Ruins right now so I was thinking of taking a BOS Paladin for a walk and . . . Y'know . . . losing a little karma.
Illustrious
12-05-2008, 06:59 AM
I mean commando. I don't use pistols (though I did get Sydney's unique 50 SMG and the terrible shotgun that just destroys people).
I also got the Alien Blaster (120 damage!) and the unique A3-21 plasma rifle, so I may start using energy weapons too. For now though, I'm still Lincoln Repeater + Victory Rifle.
When the Enclave shows up, you'll have plenty... PLENTY of enclave armor. I stashed 4 fully repaired enclave armors and helmets in my locker at Megaton. I also have 2 fully repaired Tesla Armors and Helmets, and I have the prototype medic power armor and the T-51B Power Armor.
Basically, you'll never have shortage of power armor.
I don't even use power armor for my main character, since I don't want to take a penalty to Agility or Charisma.

The Terrible Shotgun isn't bad but I prefer the Kneecapper mainly because it is more accurate and only has -5 DMG compared to the Terrible. If you ever want it, go find Ronald Laren and kill him. No one will care. He lives in a house beside some Nuka-Cold fanatical bitch.

Oooh! Those sound kind of nifty! I've heard you can get the Victory Rifle as a drop from Talon mercs. I hope so because I just know the Talon Mercs are going to start shit with me when I start to fully explore the D.C. Ruins.
Also, a question. I picked up Charon and I know the BOS shoot ghouls on sight. Will they begin to attack because Charon is tagging along? Do I have to leave him behind?

Yeah, I've been to Girdershade. I even collected 30 fucking Nuka Cola Quantums so I could get the schematic for the Nuka Grenade (which I probably will never use), but I would rather just complete the quest anyway. And the scary thing is, I completed it without going to the Nuka Cola factory. I just scrounged together 30 Quantums.
Oooh! Those sound kind of nifty! I've heard you can get the Victory Rifle as a drop from Talon mercs. I hope so because I just know the Talon Mercs are going to start shit with me when I start to fully explore the D.C. Ruins.
Yeah, they can, which is damn handy for repairs.
I also really like the Reservist's Rifle, and I would use it more but the clip is so damn small and I have such huge AP that I can fire 4 to 5 shots from the sniper rifle in one VATs, and the Reservist's Rifle only has 3 shots.
But, with my stats and perks, it's like a guaranteed critical, and I can even take out a Deathclaw with 1 sneak attack critical.
Also, a question. I picked up Charon and I know the BOS shoot ghouls on sight. Will they begin to attack because Charon is tagging along? Do I have to leave him behind?
No, you're fine. If you have someone with you, they're treated just like you. You can take Star Paladin Owen to Underworld and Charon to the Citadel and all that. You also see it with enemies. Super Mutants and Feral Ghouls will randomly shoot at Charon, because he takes on the same characteristics as the player once they're partied together.
I've heard Fawkes glitches in Arefu, but that place is a bum town anyway and it's pretty useless to go there.
There's apparently a way to get Fawkes, Charon, and Dogmeat all in the same party. And if you have Charon before you enter the Citadel, you can apparently have Charon and Owen in the same party as well. I don't know how much fun that would be though, because having Fawkes by himself already kicks ass (from what I've heard), and having Fawkes WITH Charon would probably leave very few kills for you.
That's kind of cool. Do they continuously try to assassinate you after a certain quest or what?
After The Jefferson Memorial Quest, they show up random and at certain spots on the maps. There's plenty of Enclave guys, and some of them even have mind controlled Deathclaws. I encountered this party outside of Girdershade that had an Enclave Officer, 3 Enclave Guys, and 2 Deathclaws.
Needless to say that was one hell of a firefight.

But, with my stats and perks, it's like a guaranteed critical, and I can even take out a Deathclaw with 1 sneak attack critical. That's damn good. I'm on my way to becoming the uber ranger. Once I hit lvl 10, I can start getting some serious perks too. The Lincoln Repeater is so damn perfect for me because they can be repaired via Hunting rifles and I'm constantly dropping Mutants. Oh god. I hope my game glitches and I somehow don't run into a Death Claw. They sound terrible and I don't even know what they look like. My friend tells me to go for their legs though. They have some sort of pouncing attack. That's good to know. I'm glad I can take companions anywhere. Hey! I happen to like Arefu! Bastard. I heard about that as well. I actually don't even want Fawkes in my part. I heard she is basically hulk-smash everything. Charon is already popping some of my kills. I'm kill greedy. Dogmeat got owned by a Behemoth earlier in my game. Ugh god. One Death Claw sounds like hell. I cannot imagine two paired with four armor-wearing villains.

Are you serious? I told that dumb bitch to go fuck herself. On my evil character, I gave her a "sledging" experience.
I think the Nuka Grenade does something like 5 times the damage of a frag grenade.
It'd be worth it if I ever decided to use grenades, or ever bothered to assemble all the stuff to put it together. The problem is I have almost no use of grenades because I never get close enough to use them with my character setup. I only use them if I want to accomplish a purpose, such as lobbing a grenade to knock out a generator. Or if I'm a level above or below an enemy and I can't move into sniping position without exposing myself to harm.

The Lincoln Repeater is basically the perfect rifle. The only problem is that it takes longer to reload, but with 15 in the clip, you shouldn't have a problem. I've never had a firefight that lasted more than 6 or 7 rounds with that gun, especially not with Charon backing me up with a sniper rifle, plasma rifle, and Ultra SMG.
Deathclaws aren't too bad. You end up coping with them. It's when there's more than one of them that's really bad, because they will own you unless you cripple them.
If you want to have some fun, turn it up to Very Hard, and waltz into Old Olney. ;)

Ouch.
I'm down to just 2 Behemoths left. One's apparently in Takoma, and the other's in the Capitol building or something.
Fawkes is a fucking beast. She shreds stuff. The problem with her is that she can't sneak around, and I pretty much live off sneaking. It's not a problem in open spaces, because I can snipe from so far away that it's not an issue, but in small rooms and stuff, she gets stuck, attracts attention, and ends up owning everyone in a firefight before I know WTF happened.
I just managed to get Fawkes, Charon, and Dogmeat in the same party. I went to the Talon Company headquarters and sat in the corner while all the stupid mercs died.
Ugh god. One Death Claw sounds like hell. I cannot imagine two paired with four armor-wearing villains.
It wasn't too bad.
One well placed nuka grenade took out all the armored Enclave. Then the dart gun crippled the Deathclaws, and then I razed them with Xuanlong, the unique Chinese assault rifle.
The officer was still alive, but he's a pansy without power armor and armed with just a laser pistol. Charon sniped him before I could even remember he was still there...

Yeah, I usually keep a few frag grenades on me to absolve groups when they stupidly linger together.
Explosives aren't something that I need to exclusively look into as a part of my overall tactic. When it comes to battle, I'm pretty standard. I like balance so everything is centered. One minute, I could be on top of a rooftop sniping from fifty feet away and the next minute I could be running into a group of a dozen enemies screaming while pulling the trigger profusely. I'm unpredictable with my style of combat. Lol.
Sometimes, if I distinctively hate an NPC, I will take a melee weapon to their face.

Precisely. I love this rifle as of so far. I mean, I was a big fan of the hunting rifle and this was a blessing for me. When I opened that display case, I knew I had just inhaled my first breath of everlasting Repeater pwnage.
I was toting around for a bit in Lincoln's hat, playing with the Feral Ghouls. I put on the Ghoul Mask and starting picking them off up close with the rifle.
That's what I love about my shotgun though. I swear to fucking god, walking up on someone, initiating VATS and blasting their head clean off in an uncontrolled mess NEVER gets old. Never.
Deathclaws aren't too bad. You end up coping with them. It's when there's more than one of them that's really bad, because they will own you unless you cripple them.
Good lord. I have them so built up in my head. Everyone has been sharing stories of how they get pwned, one-shotted and torn apart by Death Claws.
If you want to have some fun, turn it up to Very Hard, and waltz into Old Olney. ;)
LOL. Fuck that. I'm already playing on Hard.
Ouch.
I'm down to just 2 Behemoths left. One's apparently in Takoma, and the other's in the Capitol building or something.
I've only taken down that one on the way to the GNR plaza. I might go searching for the rest after I nail off a little more of the main storyline.

That's the problem. That is also why I like Charon so much. You can diversify his style so much. One minute, he's in an NPC's face with a shotty. The next minute? You throw him a sniper rifle and he's off in the distance clipping fools.
Fawkes? Fawkes is just search and destroy, regardless of what is in her way. She can't jump either. LOL. Fatass.

None of the NPCs can jump. If you go to Megaton and leap over the pipe to your house, they cant follow you. They have to run all the way down the hill and back up.
And deathclaws aren't too bad if they don't get the jump on you. You should go to Old Olney and take a few out. The Lincoln Repeat a great weapon for the job.
Lord Sorgo
12-06-2008, 10:01 AM
Well, that's just lame. Charon should be able to jump. I laughed so hard when he capped his old contract bearer in the face.
He's fucking awesome.
Go to Old Olney? Hell no. I'm on Hard and that's already difficult enough. I'm still nervous about these Deathclaws. One of the creepiest looking enemies so far are the Centaurs. As terrible as they look, they are easy to defeat.
Illustrious
12-06-2008, 11:12 AM
Centaurs are nothing more than mutant watchdogs. They aren't tough. Mirelurks are much harder than centaurs, and they aren't hard at all unless you're shooting them in the armor.
I saw a Deathclaw vs. Yao Guai encounter today. The deathclaw slashed through the Yao Guai and came after me with about 90% of its health. And damn those things can really move. Lucky I had my trusty repeater and I sniped him a few times in the head. I pretty much get 95% chance to hit a Deathclaw at reasonable range because of all my perks and maxed small guns skill.
The saving grace is that death claws will attack everything that isn't another deathclaw. And I've never seen a deathclaw lose a fight. Then again, I've never seen a deathclaw fight a behemoth. ;)
And as a tip, get the Mysterious Stranger if you have high luck. He's worth it. I weaken the deathclaw and he comes out of nowhere (with cool music) and owns the Deathclaw. I hear his gun is special and does something like 9000 damage, which pretty much finishes everyone off.
I also seemed to have glitched my game. I have Dogmeat in my party, but also Charon, Star Paladin Owens, and Jericho. All of them are wearing fully repaired enclave or tesla power armor with kickass weaponry (minigun/wazer wifle, Reservist Rifle/Kneecapper, and plasma rifle/flamer).
They own everybody, mostly before I even get the chance to shoot half the time. I got jumped by a deathclaw and he got in one swipe before he got destroyed without me even taking a shot.

A Behemoth would destroy a Deathclaw, I think. Those burly bastards are damned tough.
I can't imagine how you play the game with so many helpers in your party. I wouldn't be able to play like that. It would ruin the experience for me because I love to destroy everything that is in my way or that fucks around with me.
Yeah, you should not have four NPC's in your party. I thought the maximum limit was three?
I fear Mirelurks ever since the beginning of the game. They were the FIRST thing I encountered and bringing them down was a bitch.

You can only have 1 humanoid follower at a time (including the Mr. Gutsy robot) and dogmeat. So the maximum is 2 with a pretty useless and annoying dog.

He dropped without even touching me. I laughed nervously after.

Told you they aren't too tough. If you get the jump on them, they aren't bad.
It's when they pop up on you out of nowhere, or when there's more than one that you can get royally bent over. If they get the jump on you, they can move so fast that they're on your ass in seconds, and their claws really fucking hurt.

I can't tell you exactly how much harder very hard is compared to hard, but probably about 25% or more. Super Mutants see the most significant boost IMO, as Super Mutant Masters are now ones that you have to try to avoid. Deathclaws are still tough on hard, but not as much.
Deathclaws are annoying as fuck if you don't have the dart gun.
