I'm not sure if any of you have played these games, but I think the Thief games are the greatest games ever made thus far. Thief: The Dark Project, Thief II: The Metal Age, and Thief 3: Deadly Shadows. Thief 1 basically created and revolutionized first person stealth games, and the maker of that game went on to make Deus Ex(another one of the greatest games). The plot is amazing, the graphics are great, the dialogues and gameplay are virtually flawless. Just wondering if any of you have played these.

I've played Thief 3: Deadly Shadows. I loved playing it when I first got it, but it was just so frustrating at too many points. It's collecting dust on my shelf right now as I play Splinter Cell: Double Agent in its place.

What made it so frustrating? As far as gameplay goes, it's the best in the series, and the storyline is just incredible.

It's frustrating because of its spotty difficulty in places. It's annoying to have to go sit and relisten to entire conversations just to get certain notes, and it's also annoying to need to camp in the same shadows for up to minutes at a time if you screw up even a little.

I suppose but do you think it's realistic? I'm pretty sure that's what looking glass was going for. But again you're more for gameplay so it's annoying for you. I'm all into plot so I can hide in the shadows for a long period of time, listening to random conversations.

No, I think it's very realistic, and if done right, it's great.
But think about it, if I suddenly alert the guards and forgot to save, well, I may have to go back and listen to a conversation all over again. The conversation gets a little old the 3rd or 4th time around.

You are correct. That is indeed a nuisance.

It'd be great if you skip over sections that you've finished too.
I remember in Deadly Shadows that if your save got corrupted (which happens a fair bit because the designers never gave it next-gen compatibility), you'll have to start over from the very beginning.

That's also very true. But a great thing about the thief games is that you have to approach the levels on completely different levels, when you are playing on Hard, or Expert. And not to mention there are TONS of sidequests..

Agreed.
I particularly like that the expert level requires no blood and you have to loot pretty much everything. Trying to get 100% loot on expert is a real challenge, especially since the guards are all so sensitive to almost any movement.
And if they spot you... well, you're fucked.

Yup, to date I have not beaten any of the 3 games on the expert level. Each level takes about 30 minutes to an hour to beat, if you want to enjoy the game and scenery. Not to mention the shalebridge cradle level took me almost 2 hours to complete, the Maw of Chaos took about 30 minutes, and the Soulfourge Cathedral took another hour and a half. Playing on expert, you're going to be sitting there for days playing each level. I wish I had that kind of time. When I'm a millionaire, I will.
